When I picked up my first lacrosse stick at the age of five, I had no idea how much the sport would shape my life. What began as a fun way to spend time outside quickly turned into a passion that has fueled my goals and ambitions. Now, as a freshman at Corner Canyon High School and a defender and LSM for some of the top teams in the country like Utah Summit Lacrosse Club, West Coast Starz Gold, and Red Hots National, I’ve come a long way from those early days of youth lacrosse.
Early Days: Learning the Basics
My introduction to lacrosse was through local youth leagues in Utah and I quickly developed a love for the game. The fast pace, the strategy, and the opportunity to make an impact on the field drew me in.
My coaches instilled in me the fundamentals: footwork, stick handling, and positioning. Playing as a defenseman clicked naturally for me. I loved the challenge of shutting down opponents and creating turnovers for game changing offensive plays.
Embracing the Grind
As I moved up through the ranks, I realized that talent could only take me so far. Success in lacrosse—or anything in life—requires focus, dedication and effort. I spent countless hours on the field and in the gym, improving my speed, strength, and skills.
Competing at national tournaments was a turning point. Playing against high-level teams across the country forced me to elevate my game. It wasn’t always easy, but the lessons I learned from tough matchups prepared me for the road ahead.
Breaking Through: The Club Scene
Joining Utah Summit LC and earning spots on West Coast Starz Gold and Red Hots National teams gave me opportunities to compete on a national stage. These experiences exposed me to elite competition and showed me the importance of teamwork. Lacrosse isn’t just about individual stats; it’s about how well you contribute to your team’s success.
Some highlights of my national journey include:
- Nike All-Star: Representing my region in front of top players and coaches was a dream come true.
- New Balance All-American: A humbling recognition that reminded me of the importance of staying focused on my goals.
- Spotlight Showcase: Playing with and against the best players in my age group pushed me to keep growing.
- 1% Showcase: Competing at this premier event was one of the most exciting experiences of my lacrosse journey so far. Playing alongside the nation’s top talent gave me a chance to prove myself and learn from the best. The environment was intense and competitive, and it showed me what it takes to truly stand out at the highest level.
Balancing School, Sports, and Life
Entering high school at Corner Canyon has brought new challenges. Balancing academics, training, and a competitive lacrosse schedule isn’t always easy, but I’ve learned the value of time management and setting priorities and goals.
Being part of a team has also taught me leadership skills. Whether it’s encouraging teammates during a tough game or leading by example in practice, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice—it’s about inspiring others to give their best.
Looking Ahead: Dreaming Big
My ultimate goal is to play Division I lacrosse and eventually compete in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). These aspirations keep me motivated to work hard every day. I know the journey won’t be easy, but I’m ready for the challenges ahead.
Lacrosse has taught me more than just how to play a sport. It’s taught me discipline, resilience, and the power of believing in yourself. Whether it’s a youth league or the national stage, every step of the journey matters.
To other athletes out there chasing their dreams, my advice is simple: never stop learning, never stop working, and never stop believing.
Take a look at my tournament schedule and maybe I’ll see you on the field!
D1 mindset. D1 defense. No excuses.
